I was born in the Dominican Republic. I grew up in San Pedro de Macorís, where at the age of 13 I was introduced to painting. I soon began working at the studios of several respected artists, as well as teaching art. In 1997, I was selected to represent the San Pedro de Macorís student community at the Cuban Arts Festival in Havana, Cuba.

Later the same year, I was honored with both the first and third prizes in the "Monuments of the City" Contest of San Pedro de Macorís, winning a full scholarship to the Universidad Central del Este. At the age of 19, I also won the first prize in mural painting in the "Cleaning the City" Competition of San Pedro de Macorís. At the age of 21, I won a full scholarship to Altos de Chavón Design School, where, two years later, I won a full scholarship to the Parsons School of Design in New York City.

After graduating from Parsons in 2004 with a BFA in Illustration, I have been working as a graphic designer, both full-time and freelance. I have extensive experience with package design, brand identity development, corporate signage, product photography and illustration.

In my free time, I indulge in my lifelong passion — painting. My preferred medium is oil on canvas. My paintings have been shown at the United Nations in New York, the Hoboken Historical Museum, the City Hall of Jersey City, in Salvador, Brazil, and in the Dominican Republic, among other places. Some of them can be seen at www.elizardodejesus.com.
